When it comes to heading back to homeschool for a new year, you want to make sure you are organized. I’ll admit, it took me a long time to figure out what this organization system would look like for our family because my work schedule was always changing.

The key to any type of organizing is to make sure that the end results save you time, effort and make sense. You want things stored where you will use them. Keep your family and your habits in mind.

Here are some back to homeschool organization ideas that will surely help!

Back To Homeschool Organization Ideas: Organize Homeschool Supplies 

Folders, crayons, worksheets, tablets, pencils, books, OH MY! The number of supplies your children need for homeschooling can be overwhelming. How can you organize all the homeschooling supplies? Here are a couple of quick and easy ways!

• Color coding– Color coding is a great way to organize a homeschool curriculum or homeschool space. Having specific colored folders, notebooks, and supplies for each child will help you organize materials.
  
  I love colored dots for workbooks and curriculum textbooks. Each of my children has a specific color. You can use these clear labels to put over the stickers, so they do not get picked at or fall off. You can even use a label maker. This label maker connects to your phone! 

• Storage Bins- Make sure each of your children has a storage bin. A 3 drawer bin on wheels is great if you have to move where you homeschool each day. Plus, all supplies like folders, notebooks, and workbooks will fit easily inside the drawers!
  
  Having a bin of drawers on the table is also great for pencils, crayons, markers, and other materials your children may need to share but do not need to be on the table all the time. These bins can also be thrown into the car and brought with your children to their babysitter if they are homeschooling out of the house. 
  
  Another great option if you are a minimalist, if you do not have much storage room, or if you have a homeschool room. These book bins are awesome; they create easy storage for your children to keep on their desks or in their cubbies. You can even color-code them for different subjects, children, or whatever works for you! 
  
  
• Throw Out Old Supplies- Dried-out markers, broken pencils, and ripped folders are not going to be very useful to you and are most likely just gonna get in the way. When organizing homeschool supplies, get rid of old stuff that can no longer be used. 
  
  We all have saved something and said, “Oh, I can use this differently.” It then sat on your kitchen counter, kitchen table, and dining room table and finally found its way to the garbage after being in the way for too long. Be proactive and get rid of old supplies before you buy new stuff.
  

• Caddy and Jars- Mason jars are for more than just canning. They make for a great homeschool craft organization too. Use them for craft materials like buttons, pipe cleaners, glue sticks, etc. You can also use supply caddies. These can hold scissors, pencils, markers, really anything you need!

You want to make sure the area you are homeschooling in is organized and ready to go before you start.  It may be best to have a specific homeschool room, but that is not always the case for everyone.

I live in a small, one-level home. We homeschooled at the kitchen table, living room sofa, outside, and sometimes the kids wanted to do homeschool in their bedrooms. Again, make sure the back to homeschool organization ideas for your home fit your family’s needs.

Here are some homeschool room ideas or homeschool space ideas.

• Table or Desk- You want each of your children to have a place to do their work. This can either be a table or a desk. You want it big enough to fit any type of materials they may need, like a workbook or computer.
  
  If you are using a large table, each child should have their own space. This will allow for fewer distractions and arguments with siblings. I share some options from Amazon below, the lap desk with legs are perfect for kids who like to move from room to room while homeschooling.
  
  
• Supplies Area- You want to have all the supplies you may need within reach. Some supplies like buttons or pipe cleaners can be kept in a supply drawer or closet. But, it will make your life a little less stressful if you don’t have to look around for a pencil or a science notebook in the middle of a lesson. Use the supply caddies or organization ideas from before to help with this. 
  
  
• Quiet Space- Your children deserve a quiet place to work. If you have younger ones who are not quite homeschooling yet, try to keep the tv or tablets quiet and use quiet box ideas to give them something to do so you can focus on the older ones or work. Find a spot in your house that will be the quietest. A specific room focused on homeschooling is always helpful.

• Donate- If you are still holding on to board books while your children are in 3rd grade. It may be time to take a trip to the donation box. Look through any material and see if you can donate it. You can bring old educational toys to daycare facilities or preschools, and the same with old books. Public school teachers are always looking for more books for their classroom library. Ask neighbors, friends, or family if they could use them.
  
  
• Organize Materials- Put books on shelves or in baskets, and you may decide to separate them in different ways: genre, theme, chapter/picture book. You may also put curriculum workbooks or binders together.
  
  
• Flashcards- Flashcards are helpful but can quickly take over a homeroom and storage space. Grab an expandable folder and label each section for different topics/flashcards. Each child can have one with specific flashcards for what they are working on. Recipe boxes are also great for organizing flashcards!
