Homeschooling High School: Our Grade 11 Curriculum
Inside: Are you homeschooling high school? Many ask what we are using for Grade 11 curriculum. Sharing our homeschool picks for the year!
We finished up our homeschool year the end of May.
Three months of summer break anyone? YES PLEASE!
We spent the next week gathering information such as final grades and samples to send off as part of our final year-end report.

The great thing about having two kids is how different they are.
The hard part about having two kids is how different they are.
HA! 😉
Where she struggled to make a decision (read about that here) he had an idea of what he wanted to learn based on his experience last year.
After he tells me what he wants to study I use this step by step plan to help me find resources that my son can choose from.
⇒By the way I also have a secret weapon ? I LOVE this book to help me cure the fear and overwhelm of homeschooling high school. Read my review here: Cure The Fear: A Powerful Tool To Help You Homeschool High School With Confidence
The beautifully printed planning sheets you see are from Cure The Fear! My other favorite homeschool planning book is The Well Trained Mind, pictured above.
Grade 11 Curriculum Choices:
I’ll be sharing what we are planning on using for Grade 11 because one of the biggest challenges of homeschooling and working is finding curricula that will work for you and your family.
Checking out what others are using is a great way to get new ideas to see what might work for you!
If you are not sure if you can or should homeschool the high school years, be sure to read about the 3 questions I asked to help us decide what was right for our family ♥
Math:
Last year we discovered he needed Algebra before Geometry. This year his plan is to dive into Geometry.
He will be using Geometry from All In One Homeschool.
By the way, if you are listing it on your transcript I highly recommend you use that title ^^ instead of “Easy Peasy”. I was informed it sounds more professional.
Language Arts:
My son loves the Writing With Skill series and has completed the first two. This year he will begin Writing With Skill Student Workbook Level 3.
By the way, I am sharing both links to Amazon and Christianbook.com because I like to compare prices. That way I can get the most for my money.
You can also get it here on Amazon, Writing with Skill Student Book.
And I’ll be getting the Writing With Skill Instructor Text Level 3 for me!
You can also get it here on Amazon, Writing With Skill Teachers Text.
Grammar:
He will continue on with this series and for grammar, he will use Analytical Grammar which can be broken down to a 3-year program.
You can also get it here on Amazon: Analytical Grammar, a Systematic Approach to Language Mastery Teachers Book & Student Book.
We will be beginning year 3. He loves this program. I hate it. lol!
Science:
We love to supplement our science with our favorite subscription boxes, e-books and fun experiments the kids find.
This year his base will be Oceanography With Lab from All in One Homeschool.
So far, his sister has chosen several experiments from STEAM Kids in the Kitchen. However knowing him, he will join in the fun!
I snagged the E-book, which you can get here.
Or you can get the paperback on Amazon here.

History:
For the first time since we began our homeschooling journey my children are doing different history programs.
He will be covering World History from All in One Homeschool.
Cooking:
Last year, he decided to cook one dinner meal a week. This will continue and include writing the grocery list, buying the food, preparing, cooking and clean up.
He started last summer by working on his knife skills and helping prepare dinners with me or his father.
Since then he’s moved on to both the Instant Pot course for kids and the full E-course Kids Cook Real Food.
You can read all our thoughts on this program here: Homeschool Cooking Curriculum We Love – Our Experience With the Kids Cook Real Food Program
He is still NOT a fan of cooking but does chip in when required. He’s made some great meals over the past year. He loves to experiment which can be…fun.
Foreign Language:
He has been learning French over the last few years and last year we started using Breaking The Barrier French along with Duolingo.
I’m going to be honest, this is not what I thought it would be. He says it is okay and he has to spend some time researching how the phrases will go.
He also reads along with audiobooks and magazines to help him out. I would love to find a really great and affordable French program that had audio and written components. If you know of one please let me know! ♥
He refuses to meet with an instructor and this is where I am hitting a roadblock. In the meantime, we will continue with this.
Health:
We are pretty active family and will be aiming for 30 minutes a day. These will include swimming, skating, mountain biking, hiking, and shoveling snow.
Health we will be using Physical Fitness: Looking Good, Feeling Good as our spine along with Life Choices Venturing Out.
And since the new puppy will need a ton of exercise, we’ll be adding puppy training classes to the fun.
Drivers Education:
That’s right by “baby” is learning to drive.
He is attending 30 hours of classroom instruction along with driving with an instructor through Young Drivers of Canada.
While waiting for his first driving lesson with the instructor I’ve taken him out a few times.
This looks really familiar 😉
There you have it our 11th grade curriculum plan.
You might think that high school is scary. I sure did. I have learned that it is great to be able to step back and let him take responsibility for his education.
This year was so much easier than I thought it would be. We went through the books, dug out last years 4 year plan and saw what was missing. Adjusted and look at what was working and what wasn’t.
Are you homeschooling high school? What is your favorite curriculum you are using?
Take care,
Jen
PS. Many freak out about the very idea of homeschooling high school. I know I did! I thought it was going to be horrible and scary. It wasn’t. If you are worried you can’t do this, breathe deep momma and repeat after me, “I got this!” Have a little faith and trust in you <3
