Let’s be honest, you aren’t in a fun situation but with the right tools and support, you can get out.
Survival Mode Is Real
When I first started working full-time outside of the home while continuing to homeschool my kids, I found myself swapped, spinning in circles, just trying to make it through the day.
Of course, I didn’t actually know I was going through survival mode because no one was talking about it.
Instead, moms just like me were struggling day in and day out just to make it through the day. They were exhausted and overwhelmed, blaming themselves for not being “enough” to do it all.

Once I learned about survival mode and that it WAS real and not just something in my head, I felt a huge weight lift off of my shoulders because I realized there wasn’t something wrong with me.
Rather, I was going through a difficult situation, and I didn’t have the tools and resources to help me cope.
Survival mode isn’t something every single working mom goes through, but if you find yourself in this situation or know a friend who is going through it, having the resources on hand is a big help.
Survival Mode Journaling Page
Living in survival mode is exhausting both physically, mentally, and emotionally.
I have found that taking the time to self-reflect and journal can help me step back and see the bigger picture.
Using a notebook or the worksheets above, I want to encourage you to take a few minutes “check in” with yourself.
Survival Mode Self-care
Have you ever noticed that the first thing you remove from your to-do list when you start to feel overwhelmed, and your schedule is out of control is self-care?
Self-care isn’t selfish. Instead, view it as a way to refill your cup so you can pour out to others.

Unfortunately, when we remove those precious minutes to recharge, we end up setting ourselves up for burnout and survival mode.
If you find yourself struggling, I highly recommend starting a simple self-care routine.
You would be surprised how even just 5 minutes of downtime can help you avoid burnout as a working homeschool mom.
Survival Mode Tools:
As a working mom, you know changes in your day-to-day life can be stressful.
That’s why I appreciate having tools in my back pocket to pull out when I feel myself spinning out of control.
Learning how to prioritize and protect my energy was vital.
Sometimes life gets away from us and all we want to do is tread water without drowning, am I right?
I created this guide is designed to help you do that. To tread water and use whatever energy you have available to get at least the most important thing on your list done.
If you know a big change is coming, such as a new baby, a new job, moving, or a busy work season on the way, I find doing what I can ahead of time helps reduce stress.
If you find yourself spiraling, try:
- Taking a short walk and breath deeply
- Grabbing a journal and jot down all your feelings
- Practice progressive muscle relaxation
- Make any decisions ahead of time so you can beat decision fatigue
Learning how to manage your time and energy is a skill that takes time to learn.
Give yourself a lot of grace and love during this season of your life.
