Should You Have A SchoolhouseTeachers.com Membership For Your Homeschool?

Inside: Are you wondering if you should invest in a SchoolhouseTeachers.com membership for your homeschool? I’m answering your questions about the full online membership.

One of the many things that keep me going while working and homeschooling are online homeschooling programs.

Online programs are a sanity saver for a busy mom on the go because they allow your kids to keep learning wherever they are.

One we have tried and loved is SchoolhouseTeachers.com

Schoolhouseteachers is an online homeschooling program for all ages.

Disclosure: I may receive commissions for purchases made through links in this post.

I discovered SchoolhouseTeachers.com a few years ago when my kids were driving me crazy with the “I’m bored” ranting.

They were bored. Restless. No longer excited about learning. But that year I had a plan, a secret weapon to try out. 😉

A Quick Overview Of The Membership:

In case you’ve never heard of this online program here is a quick overview.

SchoolhouseTeachers.com is a computer-based homeschool curriculum that provides over 426 courses.

SchoolhouseTeachers.com now offers a full preschool curriculum, a full kindergarten curriculum, and quality courses to complete every grade level from preschool through twelfth grade in science and music, PLUS ever-expanding course selections in all subjects across all grade levels and over 1000+ videos on demand in the media library. All at the click of a mouse button.

All course materials are included and you can cancel at any time.

Therefore, when I saw I could let the kids loose on the site to try it out for just $5.00 I was all for it. Please note: The trial is only available for the Ultimate Monthly Plan. In some cases, the sale they have that month would be the better deal.

I grabbed that trial month and we jumped in.

As they say… the rest is history.

You can read that journey and what we tried here

Because I get asked a lot of questions about the SchoolhouseTeachers.com Membership I wanted to pull together this list of questions and the answers I have.

I find getting the facts are best to help you make an informed decision if the membership is right for your family or not.

If you have a question I didn’t answer, please leave it in the comments and I’ll update this list.

⇒ Please note: I do not own schoolhouseteachers.com in any way, shape, or form. What they do, change, remove, edit or add to is out of my control. My answers are based on my own experience or the research I’ve done.

An Inside Peek At The SchoolhouseTeachers.com Membership:

I created this video to answer questions I received from readers. I am sharing a few of the resources you can find on the SchoolhouseTeachers.com membership site. (Watch it here)

Let’s get to a few questions you may have:

One Price For The Whole Family

“How much is it?”

Let me confess. When I shop for anything I start with the price.

I don’t care how awesome your “thing” is, if I can’t afford it, it is no good to me.

That is why I love that SchoolhouseTeachers membership is one price for the whole family. No matter how many kids you have OR what grade levels you need.

Once you sign up you can lock that rate in for as long as you are a member.

They have a few different options to help you find the right one fo your family. You can join monthly limited (K-8) membership or ultimate (K-12) membership or save on a one-year membership.

SchoolhouseTeachers.com has some great sales running off and on throughout the year and I always try hard to let you know when they are so you can save even more.

The Ultimate Membership includes 400 preK-12 courses, plus tons of planning and organizational tools, with new content being added all the time.

What Is The Difference In The Membership Levels?

There are 2 levels of the membership, Limited and Ultimate. Plus 2 options for each one, monthly and yearly.

See the image below for the breakdown. This one includes the sale price for the Ultimate BOGO Sale which is now over, I’m explaining why one is circled in orange in the image below.  The regular price at the time of writing this is $224.97 USD.

4 levels of the SchoolhouseTeachers membership

380+ Online Courses Freedom & Flexibility

“How many courses do you get?”

The membership includes access to 380+ online courses that are self-paced to accommodate different learning styles.

Because the classes are not live you can jump in at any time.

Almost all classes have a written component. Others such as Filmmaking, Beginning Guitar, Beginning Violin, French, and Spanish also offer an audio or video component with their lessons.

Courses include pacing, tests, quizzes, answer keys, and certificates of achievement.

One aspect of the membership I really appreciate is that I can go into the site and find whatever I need.

For example, my daughter HATES traditional Language Arts and spelling programs.

A few years ago when the one she was using stopped working I was able to solve that problem using my SchoolhouseTeachers.com membership.

I went to her grade level or age and let her pick what she wanted to try. She got to choose which allowed her to have control. This control is important for a teenager.

She found one that she wanted to try and she loved it.

I also love that I can use it to follow their interests. They change FAST! And I can’t afford to keep up. (#keepingitreal)

When they want to discover something new, we go there first.

I already have the membership so they can pick whatever they want and rarely do I need to purchase something else. Maybe paint or drawing supplies or cake decorating tools and ingredients.

Customized Lesson Planning:

“How do you lesson plan?”

Busy moms don’t have time to be hunting down extra resources and finding things. The membership comes with Lesson Plans.

Remember lesson plans are a suggestion and you don’t have to use them.

You can find them here, along with a quick video to help you get started.

Record Keeping With Applecore

“Can I keep records?”

Keeping records is made simple with Applecore.

This system is specially designed for homeschoolers and one I need to look into using. I currently use a paper planner and sometimes my kids forget to keep track.

There is a great walkthrough video (12 minutes) here that shows you how to set it up for your homeschool.

ALL Schoolhouse Teachers members are eligible for a free silver membership which includes:

  • Course Tracker
  • Grade Reporting
  • Report Cards
  • Portfolio
  • Attendance

What stood out to me as someone homeschooling high school was this: “ As each course is completed, log in and enter the grade and the number of credits earned. You can print a report card if you wish, but I just kept saving the information and added new courses each year throughout the high school years. There are even dual enrollment options if your child is taking college courses during high school. AppleCore calculates the cumulative average and credits, and when I had finished, I clicked ‘Transcript.’”

Please note: “The transcript feature is available only with Applecore gold memberships. ALL Schoolhouse Teachers members are eligible for a free silver membership, but those who purchase a 1-year membership are eligible for a free gold membership (code to upgrade is in your email when you pay the full year price). Monthly members will see an option to upgrade at a discount when they register their Applecore account.”

World Book Online Resource Library

“What do others like about the membership?”

When I asked in my online community what resources they loved the most about their SchoolhouseTeachers Membership having access to the Online World Book Library was the first one mentioned.

And after clicking over to check it out I understand why!

“SchoolhouseTeachers.com has partnered with World Book to bring ten of these incredible libraries to you as part of your membership—at no extra cost. It’s all included in your monthly or yearly membership.” –SchoolhouseTeachers.com

You can choose how to view the information either by the World Library or by Grade and Subject.

The libraries not only include books but also include lesson plans, videos, primary source documents, research tools, games, and much more.

Click here to watch the setup video and check out the libraries for yourself.

Online Christian Homeschool Resource

“Is the content Christian?”

SchoolhouseTeachers.com clearly states they are an “Online Christian Homeschool Resource with Self-Paced Classes and Customizable Curriculum”.

This does not mean that every lesson, video or game has the bible or a religious slant but you can expect to find it in most lessons.

Although many moms I talk to had no issues adjusting the curriculum to fit their faith or beliefs, I wanted to be very clear. I, personally, don’t like surprises.

If this concerns you, I highly suggest trying the program for one month and checking it out. Then you’ll know exactly how it works (or won’t) for your family.

Full Curriculum Or Supplemental?

“Is this the only curriculum I’ll need or do I need to buy programs?”

SchoolhouseTeachers.com can be used as an all in one program. If you choose to join you will not need to buy anything else.

That said, I “pull”. I use bits and pieces from different places depending on what is working for my kids and what isn’t.

For the price, I find it is still worth it. Especially when my kids decide they are bored halfway through and my “homeschool budget” is long gone.

Freebies: Meal Planning, Planners and More!

SchoolhouseTeachers.com Membership is more than “just” curriculum.

Monthly Meal Plans

While researching for this article I stumbled across Monthly Meal Plans!

I did not know these were even here which will bring you to my one CON and how you can overcome it. (I’ll share that in a minute.)

They are divided by month and each recipe is a printable PDF.

A Downloadable Planner

I don’t use this as I have one I love but moms love these downloadable free planners. And there is no waste because you can just print the pages you need.

Print Issues of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine

The Old Schoolhouse magazine is available in print to SchoolhouseTeachers.com members. (USA residents only. If you are outside the USA you can get it as an e-magazine and read it on your favorite devices.)

The ONE Thing I Don’t Like & How To Overcome It

There is So Much. Stuff.

And they are always adding to it or fixing the older content. Which is great but it can get overwhelming.

It is easy to look at the lists of courses, programs, and videos and feel like you need to do it all. You don’t.

Or you find what you want to use and lose it. UGH.

You’d be surprised by the amount of moms who forget to use their membership!

Overcome that by using the “bookmark” feature.

You can create collections and add different lessons for each collection.

Here is a video walkthrough. Don’t forget you need to log in to follow along with her instructions.
