The new year is almost here. Have you picked out your new homeschool planner yet? Choosing the homeschool planner that fits you and your needs is fun!
Planning of some sort is essential for your homeschool to run smoothly. As a working homeschool mom, I find it vital to have a planner to keep track of all the things. Plus a planner is vital to keep me on task and help me with time management. Otherwise… I am a hot mess!
I am sharing some of the BEST homeschool planners. Be sure to try the tips and tricks below to help you discover the homeschool planner that is perfect for you!
Why You Need A Homeschool Planner
Over the last 10 years of homeschooling, testing and trying out new planners has been a necessary hobby of mine. I find as time passes, I need my planner to handle changes.
I wholeheartedly agree with Jennifer, when she says, “I can’t emphasize this enough… you NEED a homeschool planner.” -Source (She is the creator of one of my favorite planners below. )
You need a planner to keep track of everything your children have done. This is essential if you need to submit “days” or “hours” to your Homeschool Department of Education.
It is also important if you are homeschooling high school. A planner will help make sure you hit the credits required.
Lastly, a homeschool planner is a great way to teach your kids to be independent learners.

Why You Need To Try Different Planners
Remember: Everyone’s homeschool, family, and life needs are different. I do not believe there is only ONE BEST homeschool planner.
Therefore, testing and trying out different planners is the BEST way to find out which one is right for you! Plus that is the fun part!
This is why I am sharing with you 6 beautiful homeschool planners that I’ve personally tried or have come highly recommended from other busy moms.
You can narrow the choices down with a few tips and tricks. This will help you weed out what you know won’t work for you.
Questions To Ask When Choosing Your Planner:
Picking a new planner can be overwhelming! There are so many to choose from.
Here are a few questions to consider that will help you narrow down your choices:
1: How much detail do you need to be organized?
Do you want a lot of pre-written lists or do you want to fill it in as you go? If you need a lot of detail, make sure your planner has a lot of space or that inserts can be added.
2: What have you used in the past you hated?
Think back to any past planners you used…was there anything you hated about them?
I am not a fan of paper planners without coil or disks as they are super hard to lay flat. I now avoid those planners.
3: What features do you love?
Is there something about your current planner that you just love? Make sure your new planner has those features or they can be added in.
I personally love the little comics in my Sarah Scribbles Planner. They make me smile every time I open it! It’s little things like this that can make planning more enjoyable.

4: What are your favorite colors?
Planning should be enjoyable. I have a friend who loves Teal. If she can’t get her planner in that color she won’t use it!
Make sure you like the cover of the planner and the colors.
5: How much work and time do you want to invest?
Some planners allow for tons of customization and take time to set up. Which is great if you view it as a “creative outlet” or “self-care” project. Power to you.
But if you want a grab-and-go planner don’t choose a multi-step planner.
6: How much money do you have to spend on a planner?
What’s your budget? Make sure to factor in extras, like paper clips, binder clips, stickers, special pens, and markers!
I have an entire list of planning favorites here.
