How To Clean Your Home Fast

Here are five easy cleaning hacks that will help you clean your house fast and make having guests a breeze, even if your home looks like a disaster zone 2 hours before they arrive!

If you read my other post about fitting cleaning into your busy schedule, you may have just a couple of tasks that need to be completed.

But, if you haven’t read that post yet, totally check it out, cleaning schedule for working moms! It will help you get your house cleaner faster!

Either way, let’s give you some quick cleaning tips on how to clean your home fast.

House Cleaning Hacks: Kitchen Clean Up

While preparing dinner or snacks, you can use my soapy sink water hack.

This hack will save you a ton of time doing the dishes.

Here is what you need to do:

  • Empty your kitchen sink of all dishes
  • Sort dishes – put dishwasher-safe dishes in the dishwasher, leave hand wash dishes stacked to be washed later
  • Fill your sink with hot water and dish soap
  • As you cook, toss all dishes in the sink. This pre-soak the dirt off, making cleaning them faster!
  • When you are waiting for something to boil, take a few minutes to scrape and add dishes to the dishwasher or quickly hand wash a few dishes

Tonya, a member of the Coffee Club, said, “This is best tip I have learned from you. Makes my life so much easier.” Try it out today!

When you are wiping down your counters during clean-up, let the cleaner soak for a little.

Spray cleaner on the counters, load the dishwasher, or put away any clean pots and pans.

You won’t have to scrub so hard at stubborn stains, making cleaning the counters a little quicker.

Bonus Clean House Tips: Microfiber cloths are awesome on counters! You can find some of our best cleaning supplies in this list.

House Cleaning Hacks: Living Room Tidy

A living room is typically the hangout spot for a family.

It may be where you have a family movie night, play games, or just stretch out and chat over some red wine and juice. All of these activities can cause the living room to become pretty messy.

One hack I have for the living room is to set a timer and speed clean. Whatever can be done in 10 minutes gets done.

Some of the tasks I always try to complete while speed cleaning are:

  • Vacuuming (floor and coaches)
  • Fluffing pillows/putting away blankets
  • Picking Up toys/items

My good friend at Woven Homeschool has a blog post about tidying up with children

One cleaning hack that is definitely not just for kids is the 10 things clean up, and you must pick up at least 10 things.

This hack will quickly clean the room. A pillow here, a lego there, and soon your living room is a little cleaner than before.

Bonus Clean House Tips: Less is more. The more decorations and “stuff” you have around, the harder it will be to dust or tidy quickly.

House Cleaning Hacks: Laundry Rhythms

The best laundry tip…close the door and pretend it doesn’t exist!

Ok, I am totally kidding with that one! But, really, laundry doesn’t have to be the bane of your existence.

When figuring out how to clean your home fast, laundry will probably be last on the list. But with this hack, it doesn’t have to be and may not even be a problem when cleaning!

One of the best tricks I learned is to get into a rhythm. I once listened to Allie Casazza talk about how rhythms make our life easier in a podcast episode, and it changed how I look at things!

Decide on a rhythm for your laundry. The rhythm I use is:

  • Put a load in before I leave for work.
  • Put a load in the dryer when I come home.
  • Fold/put away clothes before bed.

I use this rhythm in my daily cleaning schedule for the week.

Another rhythm cleaning hack I have for laundry is to complete laundry for specific people on specific days, depending on schedules.

If your child always needs a clean soccer jersey for Saturdays, you may choose to do their laundry every Thursday.

If your husband always needs clean work shirts for Monday, you may choose to do his laundry on Saturdays.

Having set days will keep the laundry flowing, and you will not need to go into every bedroom to put away clothes.

Obviously, if you are cleaning quickly, a laundry rhythm may not help at that moment. But it’s something to strive for too!

House Cleaning Hacks: Bathroom Wipe Down

Have you ever noticed that almost everything in a bathroom can be wiped down?

Gone are the 1950s when someone thought carpet in the bathroom was a good idea?! Who would want to vacuum that?

We now have tile floors, tiled showers, stone countertops, and porcelain toilets. You can clean everything with a quick Clorox wipe, spray cleaner, and towel.

Keep your toilet clean using the quick swish and swipe from Flylady. No need to get down on your hands and knees scrubbing the toilet.

Another bathroom wipe-down hack, wipe the shower walls while you are taking a shower. Now, I don’t suggest you use bleach cleaner while in there, but a quick wipe with a Clorox wipe or other cleaner will do the trick!

If you have teenage girls or you shed a lot, keeping a Swiffer in the bathroom closet is a great way to clean the floors after you brush, blow dry, curl or straighten your hair.

It is a quick and easy way to clean floors. You do not need to change the pad daily; one to two times a week is good!

Bonus Clean House Tips: Put bathroom cleaning products in a cleaning caddy if you have more than one bathing room. It makes it easier to move around, and your hands won’t be full of bottles and dirty clothes.

House Cleaning Hacks: Bedroom Pick Up

Although your guests probably aren’t heading into your bedroom when they come over, it’s always a good idea to start and end your day in a tidy bedroom.

When cleaning quickly, going to all the bedrooms will take ages, and you don’t have that time when cleaning your house quickly!

When getting undressed, get as close to the hamper as you can. This way, your clothes don’t end up on the floor, bed, or elsewhere.

If you have a bathroom closet with room for a hamper, try one with multiple spots.

You can use each spot for a child or separate your clothes into darks, lights, and whites before you even bring them to the laundry room!

Make your bed when you wake up. Nothing is better than getting into a freshly unmade bed before you sleep, and a made bed makes a room look cleaner.

Last but not least, clean the surfaces people can see. If you have a nightstand, clear it of books, jewelry, etc.

Grab some organizers for your dresser drawers or closet to quickly hide some clutter.

Bonus Clean House Tips: You can help neutralize mattress odors by spritzing it with regular vodka. Just let it air dry before putting your sheets or mattress cover back on! Or snag some Febreze for a quick spray.

How To Clean Your Home Fast Tips!

Now you know how to clean your home fast. Here are some even quicker tips to help you with cleaning the house.

  • Create a clean house in one day checklist. Simply Cleaning House has a great checklist!
  • Take it one room at a time, and just clean where it really needs it! (If guests aren’t going upstairs, leave that area until tomorrow!)
  • You CAN NOT deep clean your whole house in 1-2 hours, so do not stress yourself thinking you can.
  • Have cleaning supplies in different areas of the house. Keep some dusting products, a vacuum, etc., upstairs to make those tasks quicker. You won’t have to drag all your products around.
  • Have a cleaning plan. I’ve been working and homeschooling for over 14 years, and the one thing that has helped me is creating a plan.
