Inside: Are you ever standing in front of your closet thinking, “What to wear? What goes with what? What fits NOW?” You grab the same ol’ trusty clothes because who has the time for that.

Self-care is more than bubble baths. Find out how having a capsule wardrobe can make you feel amazing again while making your mornings a breeze!

Why I Decided To Try A Capsule Wardrobe

I’ve been working on cleaning out & reorganizing my closet lately. I came to the realization that I needed to do this after changing SEVEN times one morning, just trying to find something that fit, matched, and was clean.

I’m trying to get rid of frumpy clothes, things that are too small, too tight, too “ew what was I thinking?!” and how to make the most of the clothes I already have – which mostly never get worn. Because I stay in my “ugly comfies” or just wear the same things over and over!

This was becoming a DAILY problem for me. What to wear? What goes with what? What fits NOW? Ugh. I’d end up grabbing the same pair of pants and shirts each day because who had time for that?!

It made me think of a conversation we often have about self-care. It’s not all “bubble baths and massage,” although those are nice.

Self-care includes practical things such as the clothes we wear and, more importantly, how we feel in them.

Let’s be honest: Wearing nice things that are actually pretty AND flattering! makes me feel better about myself.

Or maybe I’m the only one who’s had a delivery and wanted to hide instead of answering the door??

Who wants to answer the door for delivery in PJs? 🙁

The First Step In Creating A Capsule Wardrobe

The first thing my daughter and I did was purge my closet! I ended up with two full garbage bags to pass on to friends, not including the stuff that had to be chucked out! Ask me why I was keeping those. Ugh.

⇒You can read about the process we used here: How to Make Your Clothes Work for You

I was left with the clothes that I like and fit me right now. I was even able to match the clothes I did have left for a few basic outfits.

But after purging my clothes, I didn’t have much. Even in the photo above, that is the SAME pair of jeans! Lol!

I did realize I do have some really nice clothes – that I never wear because I can’t even figure out what to wear them with, or find the right pair of shoes to pull it off.

This is where a capsule wardrobe comes in. It is the perfect solution because it helps you get out the door quickly and look pulled together. Even if you aren’t. Shhhh!

What Is A Capsule Wardrobe?

According to Wiki, The Term was coined by Susie Faux in the 1970s. According to Faux,”a capsule wardrobe is a collection of a few essential items of clothing that don’t go out of fashion.”

This collection can include bottoms such as skirts, pants, shorts and tops such as coats, sweaters, t-shirts, etc., which can then be jazzed up with a few seasonal pieces.

Lifestyle… For Real Life has a great breakdown (with images!) of how to set up a capsule wardrobe, I encourage you to check it out.

Basically, a capsule wardrobe is a collection of clothing that can be mix and matched together to maximize the number of outfits that can be created.

Fewer clothes. More outfits! Making getting dressed FAST and easy.

The Plan: How To Fill In Those Missing Pieces

I was missing a few pieces. Like I said I had tops and bottoms but they didn’t really go with each other. Plus I wanted to jazz up my wardrobe without spending a ton of cash. I really wanted a fast guide I could use to dress and go.

Update: The book is now found on Amazon.

I was keeping an eye open for the new Style Challenges Summer 2019 Capsule Wardrobe from Get Your Pretty On.

Dachelle, a fellow working mom who is homeschooling two daughters, has done past challenges and told me all about them. We chatted back and forth. She even picked up a few challenges for her girls. I love getting recommendations from moms because they always have the BEST advice ♥

Confession: Being Cheap is NOT always best. I am already kicking myself for not buying the discounted Working Capsule. It looks like you get one shot to pick it up. Ugh.

It popped up as I went through the checkout and I did not get it. I really wanted to see how this was all going to work first. But do keep an eye open for it if you are wanting to revamp your working clothes too!

However, this time I was SMART. I printed the clothing list off in color!

As you can see from this update, I took the time to enjoy the early morning quiet while my kids slept to check out the intro video and drink my coffee.

I really enjoyed the intro video that explained how the challenge would work. I can’t share that with you but I’ll share this video (below)  to show how the challenge works.

Alison explains it really well and answers a TON of questions. It is about 13 minutes long but worth every second.

Here are my favorite takeaways:

  • the challenge is for all sizes, body types and budgets
  • this challenge is for real women to feel more confident in their everyday lives
  • you can shop your favorite brands and stores
  • you get fresh fashion ideas
  • and the clothes you buy are going to be mixed and matched together
  • AND she shows the inside of the challenge membership area!

I can see a few things I’ll be swapping but I have my notebook out to make my list of things to add to my list.

Style Challenge Summer

One thing I really love is that the “challenge” part is to push yourself to try new styles. When shopping, I’ve noticed some styles look horrible on the hanger and amazing on the person.

This challenge is going to give me the push I need to try new outfits and styles. Even ones I might normally shy away from, like flower tops and scalloped-edged anything. I plan on trying those on and then deciding. Are there any styles you tend to shy away from?

I also like that I can pick clothes up locally OR shop online.

In a recent discussion on my Facebook Group for working moms that homeschool, someone recommended ThredUp to shop for great deals online.

Have you shopped there before? I’ve been checking it out.

The practical side of me loves how you can sort by size and price. Another mom shared this tip: check out your favorite brands because you know how those items will fit.

They also do a monthly shipping box which I will pass on since I want to use the shopping list from the challenge but I wanted to mention it so you can check it out.

There are other places you can get cool clothes online so be sure to check around. Then come back and share them with me. 😉

Using A Capsule Wardrobe To Save Me Time

I am really loving the “get dressed once” idea AND knowing the clothes match and fit! Even with my current limited wardrobe knowing I have a few to choose from makes getting dressed fast and easy!

When you sign up for the challenge, you get a shopping list of summer essentials, and you’ll also get access to your first 7 days of outfit ideas immediately! Creating 31 days of mix-and-match outfit ideas.
