Mom Break Ideas For The Holidays

During the holidays, get a little crazy busy for working homeschool moms. You need easy mom break ideas that don’t take much planning to help you recharge.

When life gets crazy, the best advice is: Take a break.

As nice as a long vacation heading south into the warmer weather might be…in reality, not all of us can do that.

I want to share with you mom break ideas you can do no matter how chaotic life might be that will help you recharge.

You work and homeschool, which means you are always striving to manage your time in order to get it all done.

Being on the go constantly is exhausting.

When the holiday season hits and all the events and activities come begging for a spot on your calendar, make sure you protect your downtime, so you don’t end up burned out!

3 Mom Break Ideas

Before I share with you the mom break ideas you need, I want to remind you that taking breaks is important!

As busy moms, we use our time and energy to serve and pour into others. We pour into our family, into our work, into our friends.

But we need to refill our own physical and emotional well so we have something to pour out! This is why breaks are important for working homeschool moms.

Here are 3 mom break ideas you can and should be taking as a working homeschool mom.

1. Plan A Day Trip

Since flying south or hitting a cruise might not be in your budget, let’s look at some alternatives. Instead of dismissing the idea completely, what can you do in the time you have?

You might be able to do is take a day trip a few hours away to visit a place, or a landmark or explore something new.

We had fun visiting Peggy’s Cove during our late summer holiday when life got hectic.

Take a break over the holidays by visiting places near you.

We packed a lunch and wore comfortable hiking clothes. We took a lot of pictures and had fun.

For one whole day, no clients were waiting, no chores to be done, no housework or no errands.

Just me, my husband my kids. I felt recharged and ready to face the challenges ahead.

Can you get away for a day? Take a look at what is available in your area.

This mom break idea is perfect if you have a day off.

You only need a little bit of planning, such as food to pack and a place to go, and you can unplug and get away from it all.

Bucket lists are a great tool to help you plan fun activities in less time!

Don’t be afraid to get creative and try something new.

2. Me Hour

This is one of my more doable mom break ideas because you only need an hour.

You are going to plan a whole hour around what you want to do that recharges you.

Everyone recharges differently, so the first step is to jot down a few ideas that fill your well.

A few ideas to get you started might be:

  • Scour your bookshelves for your favorite books
  • Those movies that make you laugh or cry? Dig them out.
  • Have a Netflix Marathon with Ice Cream. When was the last time you choose a movie?
  • Soak in the tub with your favorite audiobooks or music.
  • Open up a self-care basket and use the products
  • Bake your favorite treat
  • Do an art or craft without the kids

The next step is to set the kids up with an activity or screen time and tell them not to interrupt you.

You could also do this when another adult is home to watch the kids or when the kids are at a social activity.

Sometimes that mental break is enough to get us to keep us sane during the busy holiday season.

3. A Fun Break

When you homeschool, the holiday season can be more than kind of crazy. It can push you right into burnout.

I learn this the hard way, and needless to say, it wasn’t pretty. Now I do everything I can to avoid burnout.

One big change we made was to our homeschool schedule.

This mom break idea includes your family members but is one I personally needed to start including.

When you are working and homeschooling you can easily lose time to just be a mom and have fun with your family.

So, I started hosting game nights with my family.

We pulled out some of our favorite educational games for teens and snacks and focused on having fun!

We had a blast!!

We even ditched our “homeschool plan” a couple of days last holiday season and instead pulled out our favorite board games, crafts, and subscription boxes.

Remember to make this as easy as possible for you!

The more hands-off for you, the better for homeschooling through the holiday season.
